What's the Hot Air Club?

From "The Zodiac Group" at the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida to "The Smart Set" at the Smart Museum of Art at the University of Chicago, museums across the country are introducing social programs that combine art and entertainment.

In that same vein, the Florence Griswold Museum presents the "Hot Air Club," named for the free-spirited Lyme artists who challenged artistic and social traditions at the turn of the 20th century. The Hot Air Club holds programs throughout the year that combine fun and socializing with a lively mix of art and culture-related topics.

The Hot Air Club welcomes Edward Arron, master cellist and current Artistic Director of the acclaimed Musical Masterworks concert series, and his wife, renowned pianist Jeewon Park. Enjoy an unforgettable evening concert in the galleries as the two present a unique musical program featuring both traditional and unconventional scores. The music of Chopin, Chen Yi, Piazzolla, and Mendelssohn will delight your ears while paintings by Metcalf, Hassam, and Church will dazzle your eyes. Asian-inspired food and signature cocktail.

Back by popular demand! The Museum's Rafal Landscape Center will be filled with great local brews and wine, not-so-puzzling appetizers and snacks, and a good-natured trivia competition. The Poetry of Susan Howe

Join Susan Howe, winner of Yale University’s prestigious Bollingen Prize in American Poetry, for an evening of poetry and discussion. Often inspired by museum collections, Howe illustrates her talk with images from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The poetry reading will be preceded by a verse-worthy cocktail hour and light but lyric hors d’oeuvres.
