Foreground, Middleground, Background: The Art of Painting a Landscape

A discussion of landscape composition in the exhibition, “American Landscapes: Treasures of the Parrish Art Museum” followed by a hands-on collaged landscape workshop.

October 18-20, 2011

Of Feathers & Fairy Tales: Enchanted Birdhouses at the Museum

A guided tour of the museum grounds featuring the birdhouse creations based on famous fairy tales followed by a hands-on creative birdhouse project.

November 15-17, 2011

In Black and White: The Photography of Walker Evans

A guided tour of the exhibition “The Exacting Eye of Walker Evans” followed by a hands-on photography-based art project.

The Artistry of the Artist Tree: Palettes in Perspective

A guided tour of galleries with an emphasis on Miss Florence’s Artist Tree decorated with over 120 artistic palettes followed by a painting on a palette project.

Tonalism: Setting the Mood in Paint

A guided tour of the upstairs galleries in the Griswold House with an emphasis on the Tonalist artists followed by a hands-on monochromatic painting project.

In Love with Color: A Study of the Impressionists

A guided tour of the upstairs galleries in the Griswold House with an emphasis on the American Impressionist artists followed by a hands-on pastel drawing project.

March 13-15, 2012

The Fox Chase: A Race Into History

A guided tour of the Griswold House with an emphasis on the painted panels and “The Fox Chase” followed by a hands-on creative sculpting project.

April 17-19, 2012

Saluting the Lieutenant River: All About the Tidal Waterway

A guided tour of the riverbank emphasizing the ecology of the estuary followed by a hands-on creative water project.

May 15-17, 2012

Making Art Inside or Out: Plein-Air Painting vs. In the Studio

A guided tour of the Chadwick Studio and discussion of the tools and techniques of the Lyme Art Colony followed by a hands-on outdoors painting activity.

June 12-14, 2012

Seeds the Day: The Griswold Gardens

A guided tour of the gardens and grounds of the Museum followed by a hands-on creative flower pot project.
